Alternate December Birthstone
A hydrous copper aluminum phosphate, turquoise was one of the first minerals to be valued as a gem. Turquoise is French for “Turkish,” because the ancient trade route from Iran, where the finest turquoise is still found today, went through Turkey. 7000 year old turquoise beads have been found in Iraq. The Egyptians mined it in the Sinai in 3200 B.C. Native Americans have mined and worked turquoise for about 1000 years. A stone of wholeness and well-being, turquoise stimulates and harmonizes the throat (5th) chakra, empowering the shy to speak their truth and share wisdom.
