Sericho Pallasite Meteorite
In 2016, two brothers were searching for their camels and came across several large, dense stones in the desert near the village of Sericho in northeast Kenya. There are no rocks in this area, so they figured they must be meteorites. Though it is not yet known when the meteorites fell, the rocks had been known to camel-herders for decades. Of the total 2800 kg found, the majority of pieces weigh more than 50kg. Sericho is a pallasite, a stony iron meteorite with olivine crystals in an iron-nickel matrix. Distinct green olivine crystals can be seen in its cross sections.
